Tajpur Beach is wide, clean, and backed by a line of casuarina trees that provide shade and create a pleasant buffer between the sand and the village. The beach is significantly less crowded than Digha to the south, and the sand is firm enough to walk long distances along the shoreline. At low tide, the beach extends further and the red crabs appear — dozens of them scuttling across the sand and into their burrows, an unusual sight that is one of the distinctive pleasures of this stretch of coastline.
The sea is generally calm enough for swimming from October to March, which are the best months to visit anyway. The monsoon brings heavy surf and the beach is not swimmable from June through September. The casuarina groves behind the beach are pleasant for shade in the afternoon; small vendors sell coconut water and chai along the edge of the trees.
