Berawa Beach

Berawa is Canggu's southernmost beach, bordered by the Tukad Mati river and a clutch of high-end beach clubs that have made this corner of the coast famous. The beach faces due west, which makes it one of the best spots on this coast to watch the sun go down. The surf here is gentler than at Echo Beach or Batu Bolong, making it suitable for beginners.

The beach clubs at Berawa are among the most expensive in Canggu — minimum spends apply during peak hours — but the setting is genuinely impressive: infinity pools above the black sand, professional DJs, and a crowd that considers Kuta far beneath them. If that's not your scene, the south end of the beach near the river mouth is usually quiet.

A story
Berawa was where the first of the large Canggu beach clubs opened in the early 2010s, transforming what had been a near-empty stretch of black sand into the model for everything that followed. The property prices on Berawa's beachfront went from bargain to staggering in less than a decade.
