Poppies Restaurant

Older than most of Kuta. Poppies opened in 1973 in a tropical garden tucked off the lane that now bears its name, and it still serves a slightly old-fashioned menu of Indonesian classics and grilled fish in the same shaded courtyard, with ponds, stone statues, and waiters who have been there for decades.

It is one of the few places in central Kuta that feels deliberately calm — the noise of Jalan Legian disappears the moment you walk in. Book ahead in season, ask for a table by the garden pond, and order the rijsttafel if you are hungry and curious.
