Batu Bolong is a rock pinnacle in the northern part of Komodo National Park that drops vertically from the surface to about 50 metres. It is consistently rated one of the top dive sites in Asia and, by many experienced divers, in the world. The currents that sweep around the pinnacle bring cold, nutrient-rich water that feeds extraordinary concentrations of marine life — reef sharks, Napoleon wrasse, trevally, pygmy seahorses, and sweeping shoals of fusilier and anthias.
Diving Batu Bolong requires a good level of experience — the currents are strong and the timing critical — and a reputable dive operator who knows the site. Most liveaboard and day-trip operators from Labuan Bajo include it in their itineraries. The site can only be dived when conditions are right; check forecasts and be prepared to miss it if the current is too strong.
