Kemang, in south Jakarta, is the expat and creative-class neighbourhood -- the place to come for proper bars, live music venues, gallery openings and brunches. Jalan Kemang Raya is the spine, lined with restaurants ranging from Indonesian regional cooking to Italian, Korean and Mexican, plus boutiques and a handful of design studios. It is one of the few parts of the city that feels properly walkable in the evening, when the heat drops and the terraces fill up. Traffic getting in and out is brutal, especially on weekends; allow time.
