A 31-metre pyramid in the Ngaglik sub-district, three kilometres north of Yogyakarta city centre. The Monumen Yogya Kembali ("Yogyakarta Returns") commemorates the recapture of the city from Dutch forces in 1949, a turning point in the war of independence.
The interior is a museum on three floors — dioramas of the General Offensive of 1 March 1949, relief sculptures around the outside wall, weapons and uniforms. The top floor is a meditation room with the names of the fallen. Locally known as "Monjali".
