Gajah Mungkur Reservoir is Wonogiri's defining landscape: a broad artificial lake made by damming the upper Solo River. The water spreads below low hills and fishing villages, with simple recreation areas, boat rides, and viewpoints around the shore.
The reservoir is only a short drive from town, but the best views need a little climbing. Go early or late in the day, when the light is softer and the heat is less punishing.
