Pasir Panjang is consistently cited as one of the finest beaches in Indonesia — a distinction earned by a combination of exceptional sand, remarkable water clarity, and near-total absence of commercial development. The beach stretches along the southwest coast of Kei Kecil, backed by a fringe of palm trees and accessible from Tual by bemo (shared minibus) or motorcycle.
The snorkelling directly off the beach is good, with coral starting close to shore. Further offshore, the walls and pinnacles around the Kei Kecil coastline offer excellent diving accessible by local boat. The beach has a handful of basic bamboo warungs selling cold drinks and grilled fish, and two or three very simple guesthouses nearby. It is busy with domestic visitors on Indonesian public holidays but quiet at other times. Come for at least two nights — the journey here makes a half-day visit feel rushed.
