Ngurtavur Beach is a long, pale sand spit off the Kei Islands, the kind of place where the beach seems to narrow into the sea rather than end at it. At low tide the shallows can stretch out in bands of blue and green, making it one of the more memorable coastal scenes in Maluku.
It is best treated as an excursion rather than a casual town beach. Boat arrangements, tides, and weather matter, and facilities are limited, so bring water, sun protection, and a dry bag. The reward is a quieter, more elemental beach day than the developed resort version of the tropics.
