Fort Revengie is Pulau Ai's hard historic anchor. The VOC built the fort in 1616 after forcing local resistance from an earlier stronghold, part of the violent campaign to control Banda's nutmeg trade.
The ruins are not manicured, and that suits them. Stone walls, tropical growth, and the island's quiet village life make the fort feel less like a museum and more like a piece of history still sitting in place.
