Siti Nurbaya Bridge and Eating Area

The Siti Nurbaya Bridge connects central Padang to the hilly Gunung Padang area across the Batang Arau river, and the eating area around the bridge approach has become one of the city's favourite evening gathering spots. The name comes from a classic Indonesian novel set in Padang, and the area has a mild romantic reputation because of it.

The stalls and small restaurants along the riverbank here serve nasi padang, grilled seafood, and various Sumatran snacks through the evening. The bridge itself is lit at night and the views up and down the river — fishing boats, the old port, the distant hills — are attractive. It's a good place to eat an informal evening meal and watch the city go about its business.
