The Great Mosque of Pekanbaru is the city's oldest mosque, dating back to the 18th century and the era of the Siak Sultanate. It was substantially revitalized in 2009, so little of the original fabric remains beyond some pillars.
Even with the reconstruction, it is a useful stop for understanding Pekanbaru's Malay and Islamic history, especially when paired with the older riverfront area nearby.
