Damghan Bazaar

Small Qajar-era covered bazaar at the centre of the old town

The covered bazaar runs in a single L-shaped row of vaulted shops between the Jameh Mosque and the main square. It is small by Iranian standards — nothing like Isfahan or Tabriz — but the lower foot traffic makes it easier to actually talk to the carpet sellers, the pistachio merchants and the metalworkers in their shops.

Damghan's pistachios are famous: bigger, longer and slightly sweeter than the standard Iranian variety. A kilo to take away is cheaper here than anywhere else in the country.
