Damghan sits on the dry southern edge of the Alborz mountains. Summers are hot and dusty — 35 °C is normal in July — and winters cold, with frequent snow on the surrounding ranges.
Spring (mid-March to May) is the best time: the orchards around the city blossom, the temperature is comfortable and the spring qanat flow is at its peak. The pistachio harvest in late August is a local event in its own right. November can be pleasant but the days are short.
