Damghan sits on the Tehran–Mashhad highway and the parallel rail line, midway between the two cities — about 340 kilometres east of Tehran and 600 kilometres west of Mashhad.
By bus — overnight and daytime VIP buses from Tehran take five to six hours. From the eastern bus terminal (Beihaghi), departures every couple of hours.
By train — the Tehran–Mashhad night trains stop in Damghan in the small hours. Faster but inconvenient if you want a real night's sleep.
By car — the toll motorway is fast and well surfaced. Cars can be rented in Tehran or Semnan; petrol is cheap.
