The Friday mosque of Damghan sits in the bazaar district at the centre of the old town. The current building is a 17th-century Safavid reconstruction, but the 25-metre brick minaret beside it dates from the late 11th century — one of the finest Seljuq minarets in Iran, banded with three different patterns of decorative brickwork and a Kufic inscription.
The mosque itself is plain inside; the minaret is the reason to come. Visible from much of the old town.
