Getting There

Hormuz Island is reached by boat from Bandar Abbas on the Iranian mainland. Regular ferries and speedboats leave from the Shahid Haghani port in Bandar Abbas several times a day. The crossing takes about 30 minutes on a speedboat or 45 minutes on the slower ferry. Tickets are cheap and the service runs throughout the day from early morning to late afternoon.

Getting to Bandar Abbas is straightforward from most Iranian cities. Iran Air and other domestic carriers operate regular flights from Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz. There is also a railway connection to Bandar Abbas from the national network. The city is the major port and commercial hub of the Persian Gulf coast.

Once on Hormuz, local transport consists of motorbike taxis and shared minivans. The island is small enough that a hired motorbike is an efficient way to see the main sights in a day. Negotiate rates in advance.
