The strip of large restaurants along the road through Shandiz is the place to eat shishlik — enormous bone-in lamb chops marinated, grilled over charcoal, and served with grilled tomato, rice, and flatbread. Several restaurants on the strip seat hundreds at a time and run kebab production lines that turn out plates in minutes.
The well-known names include Shandiz Mashhad, Moin Darbar, and Sahebghraneie. None is subtle; all are reliable. Friday lunch is the peak; come midweek for an easier table.
