Castle of Arshoq

The Castle of Arshoq is a ruined fortress on a hilltop near Meshkinshahr, commanding sweeping views over the surrounding plain. The castle dates from the medieval period and sits on a dramatic rocky outcrop that made it naturally defensible. Much of the structure has crumbled but the essential form survives — walls, towers, and the remains of interior buildings that give a sense of the castle's scale and purpose.

Getting to the castle requires a walk from the nearest road, which is part of the appeal — the approach takes you through the highland landscape that characterized the lives of the people who built and defended this fortress. The views from the ruins are among the best in the region. Local guides in Meshkinshahr can point you toward the trail.
