Meshkinshahr has a continental highland climate — warm summers and cold winters, with snow possible from November to April. The best time to visit is late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October), when the weather is mild and the surrounding highlands are at their most beautiful. Summer (July to August) is warm but pleasant at this elevation.
The most spectacular time to visit coincides with the Shahsavan nomadic migrations: the spring trek from winter lowland pastures up to summer highland pastures happens in April and May, and the reverse journey in September and October. If you can arrange to see one of these migrations — with thousands of sheep, horses, and camels moving across the landscape — it's one of the more extraordinary sights in northwestern Iran.
