Khan Bazaar

The Khan Bazaar is the main covered market of Yazd, extending from the Jameh Mosque entrance through a series of vaulted corridors. The entrance portal near the mosque rivals the mosque itself in grandeur: glazed tiles and plaster stalactite vaulting frame the passage into the market interior. Inside, the bazaar is quieter and less touristy than the great covered markets of Isfahan or Shiraz.

Yazd is famous for its sweets — particularly qottab (crescent-shaped pastries filled with almonds and cardamom) and pashmak (Persian candy floss) — and the bazaar is the best place to find them, sold fresh from small shops along the main corridor. Yazd is also a centre of silk weaving and termeh (a traditional brocade fabric), and several shops along the covered arcades sell both. Worth an unhurried hour even if you're not buying.
