Borsippa

Borsippa is an ancient city site south of Babylon, best known for the ruined ziggurat traditionally associated with the temple of Nabu. The surviving mound and brick core are stark, but they give a strong sense of the scale of Mesopotamian temple architecture.

The site works best as a companion to Babylon rather than as a casual standalone stop. Visitors interested in archaeology will get the most from it, especially with a guide who can explain the relationship between Borsippa, Babylon, and the cult of Nabu.
