Negev Museum of Art

The Negev Museum of Art is housed in a beautifully restored Ottoman-era building in the heart of Be'er Sheva's Old City. The collection focuses on Israeli art from the 20th century, with particular strength in works connected to the Negev and Israel's founding generation. Temporary exhibitions rotate regularly and tend to be thoughtfully curated.

The building itself is as interesting as any work inside it — a graceful two-storey Ottoman mansion with arched windows and a courtyard that still carries the dignity of its original purpose. Entry is inexpensive, and the museum is small enough to see comfortably in an hour.

A story
The museum occupies the former Ottoman governor's mansion, built in 1906, one of the finest surviving buildings from Be'er Sheva's founding era. During the 1948 war the building served briefly as a military headquarters for both sides in quick succession before the city's capture by Israeli forces.
