A largely Ahmadiyya Muslim neighbourhood on the southwestern slope of Mount Carmel, with a population of about ten thousand. The community arrived in the 1920s from what is now Pakistan and has built up a distinct identity within Haifa, including the elegant Mahmood Mosque with its twin white minarets.
Visitors are welcome at the mosque. The surrounding quarter is residential, quiet, and a useful counterpoint to the city's better-known Arab Christian and secular Jewish neighbourhoods.
