The crater rim promenade gives Mitzpe Ramon its simplest and most satisfying experience: walk along the cliff and watch Makhtesh Ramon open below you. The scale is hard to read at first, then the road and trails on the crater floor make the distances clear.
Go early or late if you can. The desert colours are better, the heat is gentler, and there is a good chance of seeing Nubian ibex moving around the edge of town.
