Eight spring-fed ponds at the base of Mount Fuji, fed by snowmelt that has filtered down through the mountain's lava rock over 80 years. The water is extraordinarily clear — you can see straight to the bottom of pools several metres deep. The ponds are set among thatched farmhouses preserved from the Edo period, making this one of the more photogenic spots in the Fuji area, and far less crowded than Kawaguchiko in the tourist season. About 15 minutes by bus from Kawaguchiko station.
