Meijo Park wraps the northern and western moats of Nagoya Castle in 80 hectares of formal gardens, sports grounds and tree-lined walks. Cherry blossom in early April turns the western promenade pink, and the autumn-flowering kingyobachi camellias near the inner moat are among the city's better seasonal sights. A 1909 windmill remains on the lawn near the rose garden, a souvenir of a Dutch-themed amusement park that briefly occupied the grounds.
The park is also the city's main jogging loop and bikeway, especially busy at dawn and dusk. The Tonarino-koen cafe at the western edge sells coffee and sandwiches and has free public toilets. Meijo Koen subway station (Meijo line) drops you at the western edge.
