Built in 1997 in the southern part of Meijo Park, the Nagoya Noh Theatre is the largest dedicated Noh venue in Japan with 630 seats — about double the size of a typical traditional Noh stage. The main hall keeps the classical staging conventions intact: a polished cypress floor, four-pillared roof above the stage, painted pine on the back wall, and the long hashigakari bridge running stage-left from the dressing rooms.
The theatre's programme includes both Noh and Kyogen comic interludes, traditionally performed together. Casual visitors can book single-act tickets (about 3,000 yen) with English programme notes available, and the small foyer museum on Noh masks and costumes is worth the visit even if you skip the performance. Performances are roughly monthly; check the schedule ahead.
