Tokugawa-en is a daimyo-style stroll garden centred on a large pond and built on the grounds of the second Owari Tokugawa lord's retirement residence. The original was completed in 1695, devastated by fire during the war, and rebuilt in 2004 to the historic plans. The garden is small enough to walk in under an hour but layered enough to reward a slow circuit — peony beds in May, irises in June, autumn maples in late November.
The Ryusen-ko pond is fed by waterfalls and crossed by a series of footbridges; a teahouse on a small island serves matcha and seasonal sweets. Combine with the Tokugawa Art Museum next door — a single combined ticket covers both. The closest station is Ozone (JR Chuo line), a ten-minute walk.
