Gessho-ji

Gessho-ji is best known for the graves of the Matsudaira lords of Matsue, including the first daimyo, a grandson of Tokugawa Ieyasu. The temple buildings were destroyed in the Meiji period, but the grounds remain one of Matsue's important historic sites.

Visit for the atmosphere of the cemetery and for a quieter piece of samurai-era Matsue after seeing the castle and Shiomi Nawate.
