The great ginkgo at Bodaiji Temple is one of Nagi's quiet set pieces. Local tradition links it to Honen, the influential Buddhist monk, and the town describes it as around 900 years old, 40 metres tall, and protected as a national natural monument.
It is especially worth the detour in autumn, when the leaves turn gold. The temple itself is modest; the tree is the presence you come for.
