Iwaobetsu Onsen is a simple open-air hot spring near the trailheads on the Utoro side of Shiretoko. It is the kind of place that makes most sense after a walk or climb: hot water, forested mountain air, and very little polish.
The baths are mixed and basic, so check current access and etiquette before you go. For many travellers that roughness is the appeal.
