Shinsaibashi Shopping Arcade

600-metre covered shopping arcade, one of the longest in Japan

A covered shopping arcade running for over 600 metres between Nagahori Street in the south and Dotonbori in the north, one of the longest in Japan. The arcade has a glass canopy roof and houses hundreds of shops ranging from international luxury brands to domestic fashion chains, with a mix of tourist-oriented souvenir shops and stores that cater to local shoppers. The architecture of the original arcade dates to the early 20th century, though the shops have changed completely.

The southern end connects to Osaka Namba Station and transitions into the Amerika-mura streetwear district a block to the west. The northern end at Dotonbori is the junction between the shopping arcade and the restaurant street that lines the canal. On weekends the arcade is extremely crowded; the pace of movement slows to a shuffle at peak times.
