This futuristic twin-tower landmark in the Umeda district is one of Osaka's most recognisable buildings. Two 40-storey towers are connected at the top by a "Floating Garden Observatory" — a circular platform 173 metres above the ground reached via a spectacular glass-enclosed escalator that bridges the gap between the towers in mid-air. The rooftop observation deck is open-air and offers sweeping views of the city in every direction, especially atmospheric at sunset or after dark when the floor lights up with phosphorescent stones. At the base of the building, the retro Takimi-koji Alley recreates a 1920s Osaka streetscape lined with small restaurants. One of the most inventive pieces of modern architecture in Japan.
