La Jetée — named after Chris Marker's 1962 short film — is one of Golden Gai's most storied bars, a tiny room run for decades as a meeting point for Japanese and visiting international filmmakers, with film posters and stills covering every surface. It has drawn a steady stream of directors passing through Tokyo over the years, drawn as much by the atmosphere and the owner as by any film connection.
Like most of Golden Gai, it's intimate to the point of cramped, with seating for a handful of people at most. The mood rewards quiet conversation over loud nights out.
