Isseido has been trading on Yasukuni-dori since 1903 and is one of the oldest and most established shops in a district full of old shops. The ground floor holds a broad general stock of Japanese literature, history, and art books; upstairs has rarer and more specialist material, including woodblock prints and antiquarian volumes.
The shop is one of a handful in Jimbōchō with staff used to dealing with foreign collectors and a stock that includes English-language material on Japanese art and history. The wooden shelving and the unhurried, library-like quiet inside are as much the draw as anything for sale.
