Sushi Dai relocated from the old Tsukiji inner market to Toyosu in 2018, and the queues moved with it. This is the legendary sushi counter that people queue two to four hours to reach — a ten-seat counter inside the wholesale market where the omakase (chef's choice) set, at around ¥4,500, includes a succession of whatever was freshest that morning: tuna, uni, shrimp, scallop, finished with a roll and a cup of miso.
The fish is extraordinary because you are eating it 200 metres from where it was unloaded. Go early. Queue at 5am. Bring cash. This is the definitive Tokyo sushi experience at a price that would be impossible anywhere else in the world. Take the Yurikamome line from Shimbashi to Shijo-mae station.
