Wakayama Farm is a privately run bamboo grove on the northern edge of Utsunomiya. It has been cultivated by the same family for generations, and the paths through the tall bamboo feel calm without the crowds of better-known groves near Kyoto.
Weekends and holidays often bring extra activities such as matcha served from bamboo bowls, simple meals, crafts, and evening illuminations. It is a good soft counterpoint to the cold stone spaces of Oya.
