Ohori Park

Ohori Park is Fukuoka's central green space, built around a large artificial lake that was originally part of the outer moat of Fukuoka Castle. The 2-kilometre circuit of the lake is one of the city's most popular morning jogging routes, and the park is well-used by locals at all hours. Three small islands in the lake are connected by bridges and provide pleasant spots to sit away from the more trafficked paths.

The park connects at its eastern end with the Fukuoka Castle ruins and Maizuru Park, giving a large combined green area in the centre of the city. The Fukuoka Art Museum sits on the southern shore. In the park grounds is also a small Japanese garden open for a modest entry fee, and pedal boats are available for hire on the lake. The park's cherry trees bloom in late March, making it alongside the castle ruins one of the prime Fukuoka blossom-viewing spots.
