A stunningly restored samurai residence from the Edo period, this was the secondary home of the Hosokawa clan's senior retainers. The buildings are among the best-preserved examples of traditional Japanese domestic architecture in Kyushu — thick earthen walls, broad verandas, and a formal reception room where clan business was conducted. Quiet, unhurried, and rarely crowded.
