The Kaminohama Observatory is a hilltop viewpoint on the southern side of Zamami Island, about 1.5 kilometres from Ama Beach and reachable on foot in around twenty minutes from the port. From the observation platform, you look out over the turquoise shallows and the uninhabited islands of Gahi and Agenashiku, with the deeper Kerama Straits beyond turning a darker shade of blue.
The viewing platform is simple — a railing and a bench — but the panorama is one of the best on the island. On clear days you can see across to Tokashiki Island to the east and make out the distant haze of the Okinawa main island to the north-east. Early morning or late afternoon visits give the best light and the best chance of having the viewpoint to yourself.
