The Samurai Residence preserves the estate of an Aizu clan retainer, with the main house, teahouse, magistrate's office, warehouse, and rice mill arranged to show how a high-ranking samurai household worked.
It adds useful social history to Aizu-Wakamatsu's castle and battlefield sites. The grounds also have hands-on activities, a restaurant, and a shop, making it one of the city's easier historic stops for families.
