Yanaginogosho is the former palace site of the Northern Fujiwara. Very little rises above the ground today, but the pond, foundations, and open layout help explain Hiraizumi as a political capital, not only a temple town.
Pair it with the nearby museum if you want the ruins to make sense. Without context, it can look like an empty field; with context, it fills in the vanished city.
