Eating Out

Sendai's signature dish is gyutan — grilled beef tongue — and the streets around the station have dozens of restaurants dedicated to it. Don't let that narrow the options: the city is also known for good sushi, fresh seafood from the coast, and zunda (edamame paste) in every form from mochi to ice cream. Kokubuncho, the entertainment district a few minutes' walk from the station, has the highest concentration of restaurants and izakayas.
