Takanoyu Onsen is a mountain hot spring near a gorge and waterfall, especially pretty when the surrounding leaves turn in autumn. There are indoor and outdoor baths for men and women, plus a mixed bath close to the water. It works best as a quiet detour for travellers already exploring the Oyasukyo and Kawarage areas around Yuzawa.
