Madaba is a natural base for the central Jordan sites: Mount Nebo and the Ma'in hot springs are 20–30 minutes away by car, and the Machaerus fortress around an hour. The Dead Sea resorts at Sweimeh are 45 minutes' drive west; Amman is a similar distance north. Combine Madaba with the King's Highway south to Kerak Castle for a memorable full-day drive.
