Spring (March–May) is the best time to visit Umm el Jimal: mild temperatures, occasional wildflowers on the basalt plain, and good light for photography in the morning and late afternoon. Autumn (September–November) is similarly pleasant.
Summer is hot and dry on the Hauran plateau, with temperatures regularly exceeding 35°C. There is almost no shade at the site. Winter can be cold and occasionally wet; the basalt landscape is atmospheric in grey weather, but the dampness can be penetrating.
The site has no facilities — no café, no shop, no toilets. Bring water, food, and sunscreen regardless of season. Mornings and late afternoons are best for the light.
