Things to Do

Quweira is not a destination in itself. It is a supply stop — the last town of any size before the road to Wadi Rum takes you east into the desert. Most travellers pass through quickly: fill your water bottles, buy snacks, top up your phone credit, and move on.

That said, the surrounding landscape is striking in its own right. The town sits on the edge of the Hisma plateau, a vast stony desert of red and brown sandstone that stretches south toward Saudi Arabia. If you are arriving from the north, the terrain begins to look properly dramatic around Quweira. And there are a couple of things worth pausing for — the solar plant visible from the highway, and the junction road to Wadi Rum, which is itself a memorable drive.
