Kshi-Kaindy Waterfalls and Petroglyphs

The Kshi-Kaindy valley combines waterfalls, juniper forest, and Bronze Age petroglyphs in a one- to three-day trek east of Zhabagly. The first day reaches the lower waterfalls through walnut and apple groves — these are wild ancestors of the cultivated apple, which evolved in this exact stretch of the Tien Shan.

The petroglyphs are pecked into dark slabs of rock above the waterfalls and depict deer, ibex, and hunters with bows. Most date from around 1000 BC. The longer two- or three-day route continues upstream to alpine meadows and a high pass with views into the next valley.
