Central Mosque

A large turquoise-domed Friday mosque on the south side of Ordabasy Square, built in the 2010s in a deliberately old-Bukhara style — fluted dome, tall minaret, blue and green tile work. It is the largest mosque in the south of the country and a focal point of the city's Friday prayers, when the square overflows with the men of the surrounding districts.

Visitors are welcome outside prayer times. Modest dress; women receive a headscarf at the entrance. The courtyard and the tilework are worth the short detour from the square.
